I swear if I have one more yahoo tell me to invest in cryptocurrency, I will scream!

Seriously, I just don’t get it.

Let me rephrase that…

I do GET it. I have read a ton of stuff about it. Had several conversations. Weighed the pros and cons….etc…

I just don’t see it taking off. Of course, I am humble enough to admit that I don’t know much about finances and investments. Or…life in general. But mark my words. Crypto is a fad. I just don’t see it making any real lasting impact when all is said and done. That being said, if I am wrong I will fully admit it and eat crow. (gross) In ten years or so if crypto is the standard of currency, I will fully own up to my current assessment. But as of right now…I just don’t see it.

Seems to me that if we are basing the value of a digital currency on the actual dollar value of our current system, then it isn’t doing anything other than stealing people’s money and giving them some 1s and 0s in return. Not to mention being absolutely horrible for the environment with the energy consumption that it takes to “mine” it.

For example, if you told me a stalk of celery had a net value of $3,000 - I wouldn’t necessarily go out and horde all of the celery I could get my hands on. And I certainly wouldn’t expect a car dealership to sell me a car for ten stalks of celery. That would be crazy. But you see, even in this scenario, the celery is an actual real and tangible object that you can hold in your hands. Now, if I expected a car dealership to sell me a car for 10 digital celeries…that would be even crazier! Do you see my point?

I know, I know…much of our money isn’t even real paper money anymore and we abolished the actual gold standard years ago…so what is our money even really based on anymore? Even still, it is an accepted currency in every place you could ever need it to be, whereas crypto…well, maybe some places will sell you a cup of coffee with it. If you are lucky.

But…as I said before. I know nothing about finance, so if I am bankrupt in a few years with no retirement savings to fall back on…well…shame on me. But as it stands right now…you keep shoving crypto down my throat…well…shame on you.

That is the cartoon for today folks. I’m going to call Domino’s and get an actual pizza delivered for lunch later on.
