Life is filled with twists and turns. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just soar above them?

Weren’t we promised flying cars by now? I don’t know this for a fact, but it seems that every person I talk to about self-driving vehicles likes to tell me this little “fact” when the subject comes up. Personally, I think we may need to perfect the self-driving aspect before we start letting people fly around in a utopian Jetsons-type world. I mean, you drive right? Aren’t you amazed at some of the people who can get their driver's licenses? Do you want them flying?

Whether or not we see flying cars in our lifetimes, I do think that we will see a fully functioning self-driving car revolution before we depart this world. It is pretty much inevitable. Of course, for this to work correctly, all cars will need to be self-driving and we are still a ways away from that reality. I myself am a big proponent of self-driving vehicles for the reasons I stated above. Particularly the ”amazed at how some people get their licenses” and the “do you want them flying” part.

I maintain that a sea of computer-driven automobiles will be 100 times safer than human-driven ones once the technology is fully developed. Until that time comes, however, we are stuck with some self-driving cars, along with some good drivers, and some bad drivers - all sharing the roadways together. Many people who oppose self-driving technology oppose it mainly because they feel that it impedes their freedom to drive. They do have a point…but how free are we really? Until we can fly like birds we will never be truly free like them. Plus, birds can winter in Florida and summer where they please. No matter their economic status. They don’t even have to pay taxes. They don’t have mortgages. Yup, only the birds are truly free! The kind of free where roads don’t even dictate to them how to get to a particular destination. They just have to point and shoot, so to speak.

Ah, to be a bird!

Well, not the kind of bird that humans eat. You know, the kind of bird that can do as they please day in and day out. Being a chicken would probably suck.

That’s today’s cartoon folks. I will be back Wednesday with the next one. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my cartoons. We are building quite a community of cartoon lovers around here at Midlife Thesis and I couldn’t be happier! Until next time!

Cheers,
