A couple friends of mine just got married. They didn’t make a big deal out of it. They had been together for years and years and one day just decided to get married. No big celebration. No reception. Just two people in love going off to elope. No one even knew about it until they posted it on social media.

In direct contrast, my cousin is getting married this spring and it’s a destination wedding. I guess every wedding is technically a destination wedding unless you get married on Zoom or Facetime or something? Anyways, I don’t know if we will make it to that wedding and I feel bad for missing it if we do. Whereas we didn’t even know about that other wedding, so I don’t have to feel bad for missing it. In fact, it would have been a little weird if we had made it to their wedding seeing as no one was invited. Alas, it will cost my girlfriend and I a couple thousand dollars should we make the trip to Nashville to see my cousin get married. It’ to be a 4-day weekend of partying and marriage in a city that somehow became hip as shit in recent years despite literately having a record shop called “Ernest Tubb Record Shop” on its main drag. Look, I love Nashville, but how many people these days that go to Nashville (because it’s trendy all of a sudden) even know who Ernest Tubb is? That makes me sad. I am also sad that it’s a very real possibility that we won’t be able make the wedding because we simply can’t afford it.

Anyways…. you know what doesn’t make me sad? Ferris Wheels and Merry-Go-Rounds! Who doesn’t like a good ol’ fashioned circular carnival ride? Actually, I don’t at all. Riding them that is. I enjoy the spectacle of seeing them at county fairs, amusement parks, etc... especially at night with their flashing lights aglow. It just wouldn’t be an attraction without these classic nauseating twirling machines.

Truth be told, the original cartoon idea for this was a guy named Ferris inventing the wheel, but I felt like that may be a bit contrived. Then I saw the wedding news pop up on my social media feed one afternoon at work. When I arrived home that evening, there was an invitation to the Nashville wedding waiting for me in my mailbox. For some odd reason my mind immediately went to “what if a guy named Ferris married a girl named Mary and together, they dominated the spherical amusement park ride industry?” A true power couple indeed!

Anyways, you know what they say...there is more than one way to skin a cat (and why would you even want to) just like there is more than one way to get married. As long as it is magical, I would say you're doing it right.

That’s today’s cartoon folks. As always, thank you for checking out my cartoons and sharing them with your friends. I’ll be back Wednesday with some more shenanigans for you.

Cheers,

~tod
