Full disclosure…I actually missed seeing the blood moon eclipse in person Sunday evening but, it wasn’t because I was on my phone. It’s because where I live in Vermont, the clouds decided to cover the sky in a thick blanket of fog just minutes before the moon was to become stunning.

It’s how things always happen up here in Northern Vermont.

Eclipse = Clouds

Comet Passing Through = Clouds

Aurora Borealis Visible = Clouds

Mars Visible To Naked Eye = Clouds

Nothing Cosmic Forecasted = Sunny

So, ironically, this cartoon came to be not because I witnessed people not witnessing a cosmic event in person, but because I was forced to see the eclipse through the lenses of people in other areas posting photos on social media.

It does shed some light on today’s society though, doesn’t it?

We pretty much exist in a virtual state now and it’s only the beginning of technology’s grip on our day to day functions. I am not sure how to feel about it entirely. On one hand I am glad that I grew up in the 80’s before technology completely took over. On the other hand, I feel fortunate that I was young enough in my early adulthood to see it really revolutionize human life. At this point I will most likely be an old man by the time cars are driving themselves, we are living in an alternate reality and taking vacations to space on the weekends. I’m fine with that as well.

This cartoon may seem like a biting social commentary on how people act nowadays. In reality, it’s just a funny observation. Every time something new comes along, like the radio or television for instance, it’s the “end of the world”.

The funny thing is…it never is. We just adapt.

So…look at the eclipse by looking at the sky…or look at it by staring at your phone. Either way we are connected to the same energy and no one particular way is either wrong or right. Do what makes you happy.

As Sydney J Harris once said, “happiness is a direction, not a place.”

That is today’s cartoon folks. I will be back with another one Sunday and I will try to be better about adding commentary along with the toon. I admit, I have been pretty busy lately and have slacked on these little blurbs. I am sure all of my reader is missing my musings.

Cheers,

~tod
