Toxic Wussulinity?

I’ve never really understood the bravado that some men seem to have in situations that involve ego, pride, women, and almost always, alcohol. They call it toxic masculinity. I’m not sure if that’s it - or if it is just toxic testosterone?

Sure, a healthy dose of testosterone is healthy, and it helps men feel more like men as they age. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be 500 commercials for Nugenix during every televised sporting event. (Also, have you ever noticed that many of the guys in those commercials are bald? Samson?) I don’t understand it. Maybe I have low testosterone levels? I have never been a fighter. Maybe it’s because I am an artist? Whatever it may be I have never felt the need to prove my manhood to anyone. If that makes me weak…so be it. I would rather be a wuss than an asshole. Plus I have never been in a fight, and at my age, I see no reason to start now.

Whatever your take on Will Smith/Chris Rock confrontation at the Oscar’s last week, I think the one thing it has done is shed some light on the subject of toxic masculinity. Some people condemned him for his actions. Some were appalled. For me, it gave me one of those feelings in the pit of my stomach. You know the feeling right? I can’t explain it. It just feels awkward and uneasy. I suppose that means I suffer from toxic wussulinity? I am fine with that.
