Everything is just a big damn advertisement in this country, isn’t it?

The M & M’s Fan Appreciation 400

The Reese’s 200

The Verizon 200

Even the Atlas Roofing 100!

Remember the days when everything didn’t have a corporation tied to it?

We have Cinergy Field, Citizens Bank Park, Gillette Stadium, Minute Maid Park, The Pepsi Center, US Cellular Field, etc. The list goes on and on and on and on....

At least we still have Fenway Park. A sporting location named after the neighborhood in which it is located rather than a corporation. When (then) Red Sox owner, John Taylor, built the park, he said it was named because of its location, the Fenway neighborhood that had been partially created decades earlier by filling in the marshland... or "fens".

Of course the inside of the park is plastered with advertisements and corporate sponsors and stuff. But, at least the park is still called "Fenway Park." For now, at least.

Given these current circumstances, it is certainly not farfetched to call a NASCAR race the "Fortune 500"..but for now, at least, no such thing exists.
